Drifting, Desolation, Decline

遷空變

This installation is inspired by the changes, relocations, and empty spaces of Sheung Wan Market in Hong Kong.

Inside a booth with smooth wooden walls stands a shaky stack of boxes, crates, and baskets, symbolizing the market’s instability and how outside forces have affected it. Parts of the installation are covered with wire mesh, along with flowers, plants, words, and images. This shows the market’s changing state, where people try out new ideas, but the lack of planning leads to confusion.

Visitors can interact with the installation by pulling out boxes, looking through gaps, shaking them to hear sounds, or reaching inside to find memories and stories from the market’s past. At the entrance hangs a basket like those used in old market stalls. It holds paper slips with ideas for the market’s future. Visitors can write or draw their thoughts to share with others.
